The Telephone User Part (TUP) enabler provides the signaling backbone between switching
elements for basic call establishment, supervision, and release of circuit switched
network connections for telecommunications services. TUP supports analog and digital
circuits, and limited call management signaling. Since TUP lacks the support for
ISDN services, it is found primarily in older networks that support strictly narrowband
voice services. TUP is an ITU-T standard, however there are several national variants
of the protocol, enabling Signalware® based applications to be widely
deployed.
Functions:
The TUP software provides the means to:
- Establish, maintain, and release calls and connections
- Supervise and manage the circuit infrastructure
TUP controls the circuits used to carry voice traffic. In addition, the state of
circuits can be verified and managed using TUP. The management of the circuit infrastructure
can occur both at the individual circuit level and for groups of circuits.
Services:
Services that can be defined using TUP include:
TUP is ideal for applications such as switching and voice mail in which calls are
routed between endpoints in either fixed or wireless networks.
Features:
Ulticom®'s Signalware TUP software is supported both on Signalware SS7 and Signalware
SIGTRAN.
The TUP software supports the development of distributed applications in a primary/standby
mode of operation. The Signalware library supports application registration and
restart as well as failover of an application to a standby process on a second computing
element within the Signalware cluster.
The TUP software supports the following standards:
- Compliant to ITU-T book specifications Q.721, Q.722, Q.723, Q.724, and Q.725 TUP
support
- Support for the Chinese TUP national variant, GF 001-9001
